The Little Prince by Antoine du Saint-Exupery
We love our wonderfully fickle, frivolous but absolutely marvellous English roses. A gift brought to our shores in their simpler form by other nations and trading people several hundred years ago. Like the French we loved these plants, but few realised then how Britain would react to them. A country of hobbyists, they soon developed gardening and plant breeding to be part of their repertoire which as nation they continue maintain, avidly.
And so we have the Gallicas, the Damasks, the Bourbon, the Rugosa, the Floribundas, Hybrid Tea, Climbers, Ramblers and the new crowned beauty, the English Rose as bred by David Austin. A nation of Gardeners and shopkeepers we owe all we have to our love of hobbies.
In Jersey we are lucky that we can grow most plants, the roses that perform the best are the English Roses, and they have proved to be surprisingly tough. However there are many other roses that are truly magnificent on walls and as shrubs so please pop by and have a look and our selection.
