Reptiles are fascinating vertebrates having the longest living history of any living creature on earth. They first appeared on earth over 300 million years ago and are believed  to have descended from amphibians during the course of their evolutio. They have produced many unique offshoots on the way, the most famous being the dinosaurs.

All reptiles are cold-blooded, with their skin covered in scales and most lay eggs, although there are certain species that give birth to live young.
